ABOUT DEBORA

When my mother brought our family to Chilliwack from Ontario when I was 10 years old, I fell in love with our great outdoors and our community. This place defined my future. I knew I wanted to work and live here for the rest of my life.

I am a Registered Professional Forester and I’ve worked in the forest industry since 1984. I specialized in Silviculture (growing trees) and aerial forest fertilization. I graduated from BCIT as a Forest Technologist and achieved my professional designation through self-study. My most recent position was Manager of Madrone Environmental Services in Abbotsford, where I was responsible for Forest Investment Accounts for the Forest Service, as well as managing the professional staff.

During the lean years when lumber prices were low and forestry jobs few and far between, I worked for BC Parks as a Natural History Interpreter. This led to several contracts with municipal parks departments, designing and presenting environmental programs for both youth and adults. I continue to offer environmental education services.

I was the first Coordinator for the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve under contract from 2003 to 2008.

I have been an active member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood since 1984 and have served as British Columbia Provincial President and on the International Membership Committee. I also served as Chair of the 2005 Convention of International Chapter in Vancouver with more than 3000 delegates and guests.

I served as President of the Rotary Club of Chilliwack for 2015/16 and currently serve as Secretary for the second time.

I have been an active member of the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve Society since its inception and served on the Board for 14 years.

I am an active member of Chilliwack United Church. I served as Council Chair from 2014 to 2016. I currently chair our Support Ministry Unit (building committee) and Futures Committee (exploring the redevelopment of our church property).

I have three grown sons who have families of their own. When they were growing up, I was delighted to be a part of Scouts Canada and served as a Scout leader and trainer for 14 years. I’m very proud that they all achieved their Chief Scout’s Awards.

Chilliwack has been a wonderful place to grow up and raise a family. I want to be a part of a future that ensures Chilliwack continues to be a place where everyone wants to live and work.
